Shroomsworth is a Breloom who is known as for his impeccable manners and solid business sense. Easily recognized by his exquisite monocle, he was one of the leaders of the Merchant guild along with PK. He speaks with a British accent and tends to be fluent and dignified at all times. Often regarded as somewhat greedy, he has gotten himself into trouble in the past over attempting to maximize profits and minimize losses. He expresses disgust over the idea of using spore-related or dust-related abilities, and as such has none.

Background

Pre-Guild

Sapling Village

Shroomsworth was raised along with many other Shroomish in Sapling Village. With a hut all to themselves, they had all the time in the world to play and grow, except when it was time for their caretakers to feed them, teach them, or have them sleep.

However, Shroomsworth would often leave the hut without permission and sneak about within the Commerce Mushroom, where Sapling Village did all of its monetary business among its inhabitants, as well as with outsiders. He was eventually approached by Elder Shroom who, instead of scolding the young Shroomish and sending him on his way, opted to let him stay and view the various trades that took place.

Shroomsworth became fascinated with the very idea of trading, watching what the various stall owners did, as well as how their customers would view the various goods. He spent almost all waking hours watching, and asking Elder Shroom all sorts of questions to educate himself.

His growing knowledge of the outside world lead him to realize that the Shroomish Hub was a very small place with no luxuries, only necessities. After some begging, Elder Shroom allowed Shroomsworth to set up his own stall to sell berries and use a portion of his daily profits for whatever he desired, assuming he didn't simply end up accruing debt instead.

Initially, Shroomsworth struggled to attract many visitors to his stall. Upon having his accent called 'cute' by an outsider who proceeded to buy something, he was irritated at first, but verbal encouragement from Elder Shroom allowed him to see it from a different perspective.

The following night, Shroomsworth set to work on what would become the first monocle he ever wore. It was properly circular and attached to a string, but missing a lens. The addition caused others to approach his stall, intending to briefly admire his new accessory, but ending up being sweet-talked into buying from him.

Over time, Shroomsworth became known in the village for being able to turn a profit at his young age, as well as the dignified manner he eventually began carrying himself in, bringing him more customers through word of mouth. Much to the glee of all Shroomish, his funds were used to enlarge their hub, as well as provide proper furnishing and all the toys they ever mentioned they wanted. As a result, he is highly regarded by all inhabitants of the Shroomish Hub. He often refers to all of them as brothers and sisters, even the ones that were born after his departure. They also refer to him as a brother, and encourage newborns to do the same.

He continued to run his stall for a long time, which was eventually upgraded to sell all sorts of goods instead of just berries. Many of the other Shroomish happily enjoyed their growing list of luxuries, though one by the name of Sporegard aspired to be like him, even attempting to adopt his accent and way of speaking.

As a gift for his ascension into young adulthood, Elder Shroom presented Shroomsworth with a glass lens, which their village did not have the materials to make at the time and could only trade out for. Now able to complete his first monocle, he was delighted, but also reminded of how much he had grown. This prompted a realization that, despite his work with outsiders, he hadn't seen the world at all, and that there could be others out there who could benefit from his mercantile skills like his siblings did.

Days later, Shroomsworth bid a sad farewell to his family and Elder Shroom. Promising to visit them whenever possible, he set out for a new place to settle.

Tao Village

"Disgusting."

Shroomsworth made a foundation in Tao Village through Master Foo, the dojo owner. He first interacted with him in an attempt to sway him as a business partner, contending that his dojo could work much better with more profit behind it. Master Foo's condition for humoring this deal was to be beaten in a sparring match.

By a landslide, Master Foo was the victor, but noted Shroomsworth's lack of attempts to hinder him in the ways that Shroomish tend to. When told that puffing out spores was 'disgusting' and that he would never do it, Master Foo attempted to reason with him, explaining that it was their only real natural defense against aggression. Even knowing that, Shroomsworth stubbornly refused, stating that he'd rather fight with dignity than resort to disgusting tricks, even if it wasn't what he was 'supposed' to do.

Admiring Shroomsworth's spirit, Master Foo did not accept his business deal, but did pass on an Evolutionary Scroll, allowing him to evolve into a Breloom, giving him the chance to fight the way he wanted to. From then on to the present, Master Foo sparred with him in an attempt to hone his skills toward his newly-gained Fighting-type nature. When expressing his confusion over this generosity, Shroomsworth was told of the Merchant's Guild, and how it was their place to sell things, not his.

Shroomsworth eventually met with PK for the first time through this acquired knowledge. Though he upset her at first with suggestions to improve her business, they eventually began to make sense to her. Shortly after, she came to know his exploits in his home village and welcomed him as her co-leader, cementing his place in Tao Village as one of the heads of their most profitable guild.

Missions and Events

Mission 2

Shroomsworth was tasked with delivering a cart of eggs to his birthplace, Sapling Village. With a choice of either traveling through Creeping Forest or Draclugia Castle to reach their destination, he and the team accompanying him decided upon the castle route.

The mission was a success, although the team reported that Shroomsworth went missing within the castle for a time after claiming an attempt to negotiate with Merlot. Shroomsworth refused to comment on what occurred within the negotiations, but he and his team were allowed to pass, and delivered the eggs safely.

Mission 2 Epilogue

Shroomsworth spoke with those he left behind in Sapling Village, happily reuniting with his siblings and bringing them gifts. He learned of Elder Shroom's health complications and that he would likely not survive for much longer.

Upon returning to Tao Village, a Deino by the name of Sandy was found as a stowaway within the egg cart. After the discovery, she was allowed to work as a Merchant assistant for free instead of being returned to the castle.

Mission 3

Shroomsworth stayed back at the village, swamped with paperwork regarding various occurrences during his absence. He instructed the return of Ovaltine to Tao Ranch upon the request of the Rescuer's Guild.

Event 3

Shroomsworth played an integral role in combating the sickness caused by Sorbet, as it was revealed that the same spores grown on the head of a Breloom were necessary for the antidote.

Resignation

Shroomsworth was nearly blackmailed into resigning his position as a leader of the Merchants at the hands of Slasher. PK interfered with the meeting that would have sealed the deal. She later discussed the matter with Shroomsworth, leading to the two realizing their interests in one another.

Upon having this attempt thwarted, Slasher set forth on an elaborate attempt on Shroomsworth's life. Due to interference by Sandy, Shroomsworth escaped the encounter with only a broken leg, though Slasher did not survive. As he recovered from his injuries back in the hut, Devonshire visited Shroomsworth in his dream to thank the Breloom for dealing with Slasher. As a gift of the guild's gratitude, Devonshire gave Shroomsworth a cane.

A Deal

Shroomsworth brought his partner to the Spinda Cafe for some tea late afternoon, believing it was the "hip" thing these days. He and PK noticed Mike in the booth right next to theirs and, after PK swallowed the Charmander's entire ice cream in one gulp, invited him to join them for tea. The Breloom promised to pay for his ice cream, but PK made a mad dash for the exit after a run in with a Rogue team and urged Shroomsworth to follow her.

Back at the hut, Shroomsworth was pleased to see Sandy and Maple had become friends but became worried for the sake of his partner when she began to antagonize Mike. He was able to prevent Mike from hitting PK.

Redactions

Shroomsworth had to deal with Gunpowder after the Gabite failed to deliver several packages to the Merchant Hut in a timely fashion. His anger was upsetting to Gunpowder, for the Rogue respected the Breloom and enjoyed his company far more than PK's. After a brief discussion with Sorbet, Gunpowder returned to the Merchant stand and purchased a whole crate of berries with actual cash to make up for his tardiness earlier. Needless to say, Shroomsworth was somewhat impressed.

Mission 4

The previous dire string of events left Shroomsworth with a broken left leg, preventing him from aiding in the travel to Sapling Village.

After Mission 4, Shroomsworth's leg was healed due to Fresnel instructing PK how to properly operate the Thistle Whistle.

Mission 5

Shroomsworth aided the evacuation efforts of Tao Village. He initially expressed a small amount of concern over the location of the evacuation tunnels, but was quickly stifled by Devonshire. He worked with Chrysanthos to help free Pokemon trapped under debris and guide them to the law firm.

After every Pokemon was safely guided out of the village, he and Chrysanthos regrouped with Mike to help guide them through the tunnels. Shroomsworth showed some misgivings about whether they were traveling the right tunnels, to which Mike disregarded. When they arrive at the end of the tunnel, they find themselves in Merlot's library. Upon seeing Palette alive and unharmed, Shroomsworth it shocked. Remembering PK's guilt over her supposed demise, he is upset and angry with Devonshire's actions of framing her for the murder. When he turns around to see that Devonshire is right behind him, along with Merlot, he is even more shocked and refers to Merlot as a beast. This causes Devonshire to go into a demonic rage, nearly killing Shroomsworth if not for Merlot's intervention.

Mission 6

Merlot offers her castle as a temporary place for the Pokemon of Tao Village to stay while the mess with Sorbet is cleaned up and the town is rebuilt. To Shroomsworth's surprise, she does not try to force him to stay when he tells her he must leave to find PK and stay in the village. Considering their... past, he had expected her to put up more of a fight, but she seemed to be changed and distracted.

Sandy expresses concern that PK has abandoned her, and Shroomsworth tries to abate her worries. Upon returning to Tao Village Shroomsworth is reunited with PK. He is happy to hear that she is OK, and Sandy is happy to hear that PK didn't leave her. After Sandy runs off to play with Maple, Shroomsworth spends some time catching up with PK. As they both try to fall asleep, a letter arrives, informing Shroomsworth of Elder Shroom's death and PK's thievery of Arianna's thistle whistle. Upset, he abandons PK to return to Sapling Village, leaving her to clean up the aftermath.

Successor

Following the events of Mission 6, Shroomsworth arrived in Sapling Village and spoke to Arianna about Elder Shroom's passing, a conversation in which she suggested that he visit the grave site to pay his respects. Thinking himself to be the only one who can succeed Elder Shroom, he settled in and prepared for his life as the new Elder and spent time with Sporegard, a visiting Rhodes, and his friend Ginko. Unfortunately, Arianna later informed him that, by definition, the Elder would be the eldest member of the village, which is not him, but her. Though she abhored the job enough to go against tradition and appoint a non-elder to lead them, she later scolded Shroomsworth for neglecting to pay respects to Elder Shroom's grave, and refused to relinquish the position to him.

Stressed, Shroomsworth nearly lashed out at a local Nidoking merchant named Trudeau only for Master Foo to arrive just in time and stop his aggression. After a harsh lecture from Foo, Shroomsworth admitted his wrongs, as well as his fear that kept him from approaching the Elder's grave. The two then properly paid their respects at the grave site.

Shroomsworth decided that he was not fit for the job of leading the village, arranged for his younger brother Sporegard to be offered the position instead, and resolved to return to Tao Village once he was able and resolve matters with PK. While Foo went on ahead to meet up with Sporegard, Shroomsworth stayed slightly longer to pay respects to the visually-anonymous grave of his late mother in secret. Silently, Shroomsworth left the grave and he, Foo and Arianna presumably oversaw Sporegard's willing preparation as the village's new leader.

Mission 7

Months after his quarrel with PK, Shroomsworth left Sapling Village and followed Master Foo to Tao Village. Along the way, the Meinfoo suddenly disappeared but the Breloom continued on towards the village, expecting to find the master there.

His arrival was a shock to Malt, though he was already having trouble of his own since word of Pokemon in the village suddenly disappears. Shroomsworth had hoped to talk with PK, but she was among the group that has disappeared. In the meantime, he took over the guild, despite Callahan's remarks on how Shroomsworth was technically no longer a guild member nor leader, and sent some Merchants to the Spinda Café to assist Hops in running the place.

Complementaries

A short while after PK's disappearance, Shroomswoth was interrupted one morning while cleaning (rearranging) the shop by the arrival of Twigs and Styx. Unaware that they were more than just impatient, curtain vandalizing customers, Shroomsworth denied Twigs access to the upper floors of the shop. In asking for the Persian's name, Shroomsworth was surprised to find that it was the villa owner he had done previous business with before coming to work for PK. Twigs, irritated with his treatment and Shroomsworth's ignorance of current events, left the Breloom to deal with his brother while he went to look for "his dear Payapa". With Styx left to his own devices, he began to run rampant around the shop; spouting nonsense and destroying many fragile and expensive items while Shroomsworth tried to catch the mad cat.

Eventually the Breloom managed to catch Styx and asked Malt to go find Twigs. As the Meowth continued to babble on, Shroomsworth couldn't help but feel slightly chilled by his words. Not long after, Malt escorted Twigs back downstairs; the Persian momentarily suspecting Shroomsworth and Malt of hiding PK from him. The pair of cats soon left the shop, alluding to his relationship with PK once more and leaving Shroomsworth bemused.

Event 7

Callahan had spread word to the village that Shroomsworth had information on the missing Pokémon. A large crowd formed outside the Merchant Hut but Shroomsworth had absolutely no idea why the fox would spread such a rumor. Upon further explanation, and much insisting from Callahan, Shroomsworth entered PK's room and unlocked her safe. Inside was a large green box filled with letters from all of the missing Pokemon.

Shroomsworth attempted to hand out the letters in an orderly fashion, but was quickly overrun by the crowd. In reaching the bottom of the box's contents, the very last letter was for him, from PK. In it she doubted that the letter would ever reach him and worried that even if it did, she may never return. The letter ended in an apology and brought the Breloom to tears.

Mission 8

Shroomsworth tried to keep business in the Merchant Hut running smoothly during PK's disappearance. He placed an order of liquor from Gambitville to meet the demands in Spinda Café, and he was preparing to gather teams to collect moondust per PK's request and the silk Gnasher wanted all while Callahan's side comments insulted the Breloom's integrity.

He was visited by Anana, who wanted clarification on her sister's disappearance. Once PK's absence was confirmed, Anana mused the possibility of her sister leaving Tao to avoid her wedding, a fact that was news to Shroomsworth. She continued to say PK was probably using the Breloom during their entire partnership, a statement he immediately distrusted. He also rejected the option to become Anana's assistant and her proposed change to the Merchants Guild as he was certain he and Malt could run the guild efficiently despite the town being under Anana's ownership. After more persuasion, he almost agreed to Anana's proposal until Callahan's intervention convinced him otherwise, and Shroomsworth proceeded to throw the yellow Kecleon out of the Hut. He knew he had to stay on guard for the future.

After the incident with Anana, Lexy entered the Hut to strike up a deal with Shroomsworth; gather some Pokémon from the Merchants Guild to fulfill a mission and the guild in turn would be paid handsomely. He agreed and prepared letters for potential candidates.

While a majority of Merchant guild members were out of Tao Village, Anana led the Rogues and evicted the Breloom, along with Malt and Sandy, and took over the hut. Shroomsworth was left with no choice but to leave a note somewhere in the Creeping Forest, asking the now disbanded Merchant guild members to meet him in Sapling Village.

Tasks

Shroomsworth and the Merchants took refuge in Sapling Village after being kicked out of Tao Village. Still upset about losing his hold on the hut, Trudeau suggested to members of the Merchant guild to find toys and give them to the Shroomish children at the Shroomish Hut in an attempt to cheer up their leader. This task was worth one point.
