He was the leader and closest thing to a Mayor of Sapling Village, and was particularly known for his wisdom in trading and bartering, which he passed onto Shroomsworth. He ran a trading plaza called The Commerce Mushrooom.
History
Elder Shroom had been in Sapling for as long as anyone can remember, running The Commerce Mushroom. One day he was approached by a young Shroomish called Shroomsworth who wanted to learn more about the trading plaza. He accepted and let him look around at all the stalls. Shroomsworth became fascinated with the very idea of trading, watching what the various stall owners did, as well as how their customers would view the various goods. He spent almost all waking hours watching, and asking Elder Shroom all sorts of questions to educate himself.
After some begging, Elder Shroom allowed Shroomsworth to set up his own stall to sell berries and use a portion of his daily profits for whatever he desired, assuming he didn't simply end up accruing debt instead. Initially, Shroomsworth struggled to attract many visitors to his stall. Upon having his accent called 'cute' by an outsider who proceeded to buy something, he was irritated at first, but verbal encouragement from Elder Shroom allowed him to see it from a different perspective. And after a while Shroomsworth started to turn a good profit.
As a gift for his ascension into young adulthood, Elder Shroom presented Shroomsworth with a glass lens, which their village did not have the materials to make at the time and could only trade out for. Days later, Shroomsworth bid a sad farewell to his family and Elder Shroom. Promising to visit them whenever possible, he set out for a new place to settle.
Soon after a peculiar Kecleon arrived in town, Elder Shroom recognised her as the daughter of the Merchants Hut in Tao Village and the Merchant Dock in Alomomola Bay where he sometimes exported mushrooms and herbs. PK wanted to learn about the location in depth. Elder Shroom, ever kind and helpful, was glad to educate the daughter of one of his trading partners. Elder Shroom was quick to pick up her problems and eventually talked PK into sharing her worries with him. They got to know each other well and to PK's surprise, he offered her a deal: he would set up a better deal on exports for Tao Village until her father relinquished ownership of the guild, at which point PK would be to offer trade conditions in favor of Sapling Village. Elder Shroom told her that he would credit her with arranging the favorable trade conditions for Tao Village, were her father to ask.
Elder Shroom also helped a small Bulbasaur called Chibby become a cook. Because the little village didn't have any and lacked any other means to develop Chibby's skill, the Elder Shroom arranged for him to travel to Alomomola City for training.
Mission 2 epilogue
After Shroomsworth had successfully delivered a cart of eggs to his hometown. Elder Shroom talked to him about his health complications and how a someone else would need to run Sapling.
Mission 4
After PK arrived back in Sapling, Elder Shroom told PK about how Arianna had shut herself in her library and used her Thistle Whistle to engulf the village in thorns.
Mission 6 Prologue
Sporegard left to deliver a letter to Shroomsworth early in the morning and it started to freeze. Concerned about his wellbeing, Arianna consulted Elder Shroom, who said he'd go and look for the boy. He perished protecting Sporegard from the cold.
