Gunpowder the Gabite is the questionable leader of the Rogues. Sassy and powerful, he does much of the gruntwork needed to further his yet unknown goals, trusting the direction of his partner Devonshire. Being known as quite the liar, his background is as of yet a mystery, with the only certainty being that he was at some point a pirate on the open seas.

He is rather abrasive at the best of times, but as many guild members have discovered, he is especially so about certain topics. One such subject is his back "fin." Some have claimed that a male Gabite should have a chipped fin, but Gunpowder is quick to dismiss such claims, saying "I take good care of myself," and that these claims are without any basis to begin with, due to a lack of other Gabite for comparison. Another touchy subject for Gunpowder, although less so, is the topic of "evolution." Gunpowder has a sort of hatred towards Garchomp in general, and is disgusted by the idea of becoming one, although his reasons are unknown.

Background

Pre-Guild

Early History

Not much is known of Gunpowder at this time, and being a rather shady character, it is difficult to get a hold of him for comment. The most successful in doing so thus far was Kathy, who delved somewhat into his history, in particular how he met his partner Devonshire. However, in her interview with Devonshire, it was revealed that some or all of the information she received from Gunpowder was fabricated.

Tao Village

No one seems to remember Gunpowder arriving, but no one seems to remember him not being there, either. However, a number of sources say he has actually not been in Tao Village for long. Furthermore, sources claim to have seen him interacting with PK in private, and judging from how tolerant of her Gunpowder is at times, it is now rumored that he owes her a great deal. These sources are close to PK, and are well aware of her nature, knowing she is certainly not above blackmail ...

Gunpowder inhabits a cave off the coast, in which he stores his hoard. Instead of containing numerous shiny or expensive objects, it instead contains items which are priceless to Gunpowder, and as such, he enlists only his most trusted guild associates to guard it. Other known locations are the "Devonshire Law Firm," a legal counseling service owned by his partner; the Spinda Café, where he likes to unwind and enjoy a glass of Lum Rum and on very rare occasions tea; and lastly, the Rescuer's Treehouse, where he enjoys harassing the other Rescuers and in particular Chill.

Gunpowder has no known friends or further personal relationships; his association with Devonshire is strictly business related.

Missions

Mission 1

While Devonshire was taking care of more important business, Gunpowder was left with the task of training the new recruits. He decided to assign to them three tasks, of which they had to choose one; all three of them involved stealing from some greedy Pokémon and bringing the loot back to the guild. Gunpowder wished to test both their ability to pilfer and their willpower when it came to not taking the loot for themselves. Gunpowder was impressed by very few, but disappointed by even less, so it was a success. One team in particular had brought back a mysterious rock, and at first Gunpowder thought it worthless, but decided it was best to have Devonshire take a look at it.

Mission 2

Devonshire discovered his stamp had been stolen by the Slasher Gang, lead by Slasher, a former Rogue. How the stamp fell into his hands in the first place is a mystery, but the blame would surely be pinned on Gunpowder. Because of this and how important an item it was to their business, it became Gunpowder's responsibility to venture into Creeping Forest and retrieve it, roughing up the Slasher Gang as necessary.

More important to Gunpowder, however, was the assault on his stash. A Ditto apparently thought it would be funny to transform itself into a door and block access, but since Gunpowder had other business to attend to, he was forced to reach out to the group for help. One team did manage to clear out the Ditto, but at the expense of the walls around it.

Mission 2 Epilogue

After examining the rock given to Gunpowder further, Devonshire knew what had to be done: after dealing with Slasher, Gunpowder was to head into a cave not far from Castle Draclugia to seek someone as of yet unknown to him. Upon arriving, he discovered it was a legendary beast by the name of Degue, a guardian of Monochrome Tower. Degue warned the Gabite against pursuing the matter further, but naturally he ignored it and made haste with the news to Devonshire.

Mission 3

Upon arriving, the two partners exchanged information they had learned while out: Devonshire was to head to Monochrome Tower, while Gunpowder was to stay behind and attempt to hinder the Rescuers from achieving a similar goal. Apparently, Mike's relationship with his mother Syrup is shaky, at best. Gunpowder promptly invited her to Tao Village, promising to arrange a great ceremony in her honor with the assistance of his "best of the best" of the Rogues.

Meanwhile, wanted posters for Gunpowder had begun to pop up around the village, tracing back to Chill. Gunpowder had done nothing wrong recently, and the posters consisted only of his face and "wanted", but a number of Rescuer teams did not question it and constantly harassed Gunpowder. Fortunately, the ceremony went forward as planned despite their intervention.

Mission 3 Epilogue

Unfortunately for Gunpowder, even a gang of low-ranking scrubs together creates a couple of competent Pokémon, and they consequently succeeded in taking him down. He was left in front of the Rescuer's hut as a symbol of their triumph. Of course, upon Devonshire's return, he heard of Gunpowder's situation and rescued him - after all, he was still required for future plans ...

In the wake of the dragon that PK had brought upon the village, Gunpowder fell ill, as cold and ice are his largest weakness. He decided to combine his guild's efforts with that of PK's and Mike's, as they had both become sick as well, in order to have more medicine mass produced and sent to those who need it. Although the top priority was getting the medicine to himself over the other leaders ...
