Arianna is the head librarian of Sapling Library. She never lets the key around her neck out of sight as it leads the way into the basement of the library, containing many, many old books and tomes. You'll never get to see it without special permission.

Missions and Events

Mission 4

PK wanted to borrow a book from Arianna's library in order to understand the odd ancient language that Sorbet would sometimes babble nonsensically. Because it was such an important mission in her mind, she only sent the most experienced teams to do so. When the experienced Merchant teams arrived at the library, however, they were shocked to find that Arianna had shut the door tightly, and not even Shroomsworth's letter of recommendation was enough to change Arianna's mind. She never trusted outsiders to begin with.

Three days later, Arianna became worried that the number of teams arriving was an omen that the cold weather around Sorbet would reach Sapling Village and kill the residents. Worried for the safety of the village, Arianna took drastic measures despite the protests of her close friend Louise the Gloom. It was then revealed that her key was the legendary instrument known as the Thistle Whistle, and when she blew into it, she summoned a great wall of thorns to surround Sapling Village, protecting it from the cold, and trapping the hapless Merchant teams inside. Despite this, PK, wondering what was taking her teams so long to fetch a few simple books, caught a ride on Barty the Drifblim and was able to fly over the thorns and into the village. PK was outraged, as this thorny barrier would not only stop the trade agreement she had made with Elder Shroom between their villages, but the fact that, without food, all the non Grass-types of her Merchant teams would starve to death. She then ordered her teams to break into Arianna's library, get her to lower the barrier by any means necessary, and of course, obtain the books on Sorbet's ancient language in the first place. But because the Thistle Whistle also enabled Arianna to control any nearby Grass-types, all Grass-types on the teams were forced to stay behind.

When the teams encountered Arianna, she had become desperate at being cornered, and used the whistle to severely hurt them. As she did so, Louise became more and more uncertain, until she finally snapped and yelled at Arianna that she had gone too far. Shocked at how badly she was hurting her best friend, Arianna stopped long enough to listen to the pleas of the Merchant teams. In the end, the teams managed to convince Arianna that they would do everything they could to make sure that the cold wouldn't reach Sapling Village, and she agreed to lower the thorny barrier peacefully. As a gift of gratitude, she then used her Thistle Whistle to heal the wounds she had inflicted upon them in her rage. PK saw how the whistle could be used to heal wounds, and thinking about Shroomsworth's broken leg, stole it in order to help him. Arianna soon discovered this, but did not pursue PK, hoping that she would eventually come back to return it herself. In the meantime, she talked to Louise about how her ancestor was the one to first receive the Thistle Whistle, and that its powers could be used for both healing and destruction.

Mission 5

Unfortunately, this was not to be, as Arianna eventually sent Sporegard (then a Shroomish) to deliver a letter demanding Shroomsworth to make PK return it. However, little Sporegard was in danger from the cold, and Elder Shroom went after the boy, eventually giving his life to protect the child. To make matters worse, PK had already secretly returned the Thistle Whistle to the Viridian Shrine by the time the letter DID reach Shroomsworth, which unfortunately led to Shroomsworth thinking that PK was an ungrateful thief who didn't think about the consequences of her actions, leaving her to rebuild Tao Village alone as he went back to Sapling Village for Elder Shroom's burial.

The Summoning

Seeing how the entire forest was dying thanks to Sorbet's rampage, Arianna used the Thistle Whistle to summon Jasmine to help revive all the plants. Jasmine then went onto Tao Village to ask everyone to help plant saplings all over the village and Creeping Forest so she could help them all bloom at once.

Successor

After the passing of Elder Shroom, Arianna told Shroomsworth (to his great disappointment) that he would not be the one to succeed the Elder but rather she would take his place, since she was the oldest resident of Sapling Village. However, it is decided later on that Sporegard was to be the next Elder of the village, though Ariana will remain in charge until he is ready to take the position.

Tasks

In this task, guild members took Arianna to Bellutiful Cuts to give the librarian a more outgoing style to further show her openness to foreigners.

Louise is Arianna's faithful assistant, arranging and rearranging as necessary. She runs errands and collects new books for the library (which rivals Merlot's own collection). She is also one of Arianna's best friends, and is only more than happy to help people look for whatever books they need from the library.

Mission 4

In Mission 4, she was extremely concerned over how Arianna was using the Thistle Whistle to bring up a thorny barrier over Sapling Village and hurting anyone who opposed her. Thankfully, she got Arianna to listen to reason, and the incident was solved peacefully. Apprehensive about why such a dangerous instrument as the whistle could exist, she spoke to Arianna and together they went through ancient tomes that helped explain both the benevolent and malevolent nature of the instrument.
