About NPC Suggestions
Hi everyone.
Glad to see members are still submitting their ideas for NPCs. Suggestions like these have resulted in well-known NPCs such as Arianna, Master Shao, and the Patrat Patrol. All of these were ideas suggested by members and made official to the group.
While you may have a good idea to share with us, please consider the following:
Appearance: Less is more. When making a suggestion, don’t give the Pokemon a full set of diamond studded armor or human clothing! All is needed is a simple accessory with a non-complex design.
Also, if you choose not to give your suggestion an accessory or item at all, be sure to make their appearance different from other Pokemon. Such example of this can be found within members of the Dark Moon Clan.
In addition, because lenses are expensive and hard to come by, it is preferred if your suggestion does not have any eye-wear.
Background: If you choose to give your suggestion a background, make it interesting, but keep in mind we may change some details or even the entire thing to make it fit into the storyline. Provide a reason for their profession or why they choose to do something as a hobby or for a living. Make these characters believable, not a bunch of generic Mary Sues or Bobs. Don’t be afraid to give them personalities!
If you do give your Pokemon some sort of connection with one of the guilds of Tao Village, be cautious. For example, if they have some sort of rival or vendetta against a leader, chances are that leader won’t even recognize them (or even acknowledge them) since they have more important matters to tend to than worry about some new guy.
In addition, ask yourself if your Pokemon fits their role. For example, it makes sense to have a Chansey or Audino as a doctor, but not a Poliwag (they don’t even have hands!!!). Pick a role your Pokemon is naturally best at or if they by chance fit a certain role! Example: Pal, as a Smeargle, can easily be penned as an artist, but also by chance, Palette’s hair also can be used as a paintbrush!
'Location: While the guilds may originate in Tao Village, not all NPCs live there. There are many places throughout the continent of Tao where Pokemon may live. Keep in mind of the location you choose for your suggestion and if they will fit in such environment. For example, Arianna was originally paired with an Abomasnow, but an Ice-Type is really out of place in Sapling Village, so only half of the suggestion was used.
Other: It is preferred you do not to use Legendary Pokemon as suggestions since all that are needed are already included in the story. However, if you do feel the need to suggest one for whatever reason, please read this article as a guide. Some Legendary Pokemon are off limits, some are restricted, and others are not in the story at all!
Just as well, try to suggest Pokemon that have yet to be used. For instance, with PK’s family and the Dark Moon Clan, the story has enough Kecleon and Zoroark NPCs. We would like to see other Pokemon in your suggestions, such as Camerupt or Glameow.
