A Volcarona from an ancient children's book. She is the only Pokemon known to outwit a deceitful genie.
History
Moth and Flame
'Moth and Flame' is an ancient children's book Lexy found in Callahan's vast collection of books. Intrigued, and with the fox nowhere in sight, Lexy read the tale of Calliope and her run in with Phlegethon.
Calliope lived between two different regions; one side was filled with wandering tribes of Pokemon, the other region was filled with fire and dark type who lived on the side of a mountain. She acted as an ambassador to both regions (overseeing trades, deliveries, and disputes) and enjoyed meeting so many different Pokemon.
One late morning, before she reached her den to rest for the next night, a voice pleaded Calliope to follow it to an eerie cave. Within, she found a golden pot with stubby legs and opened it, which freed a beast within, Phlegethon. He was grateful to be free and offered Calliope three wishes, but she refused. She only wanted her friends to be happy, and she was already accomplishing that with her duties, and left the cave. The next day, she had overslept and quickly went to see her friends, only to find them all acting very strange. She found all had strange berries with them, berries that had suddenly appeared the day before, and made each Pokemon feel very happy. Upon realization, she quickly headed back to the cave where Phlegethon was and demanded all the strange berries disappear. However, the absence of the berries did not make the situation any better. Pokemon began to accuse each other of stealing their berries and began to fight. For a third time, Calliope went back to the Landorus and wish that things were back to the way they were. Again, her wish did not go as planned for Phlegethon caused the volcano to erupt and ran off to a jungle far away. Knowing it was hopeless to save her friends now, Calliope headed towards the jungle to look for the beast.
It is unclear how she found Phlegethon, but Calliope managed to catch up with him and was able to get three more wishes. His only condition this time was that she would have to make all of her wishes at once for if she left to check on her friends, he would run off once again. With the knowledge of how deceitful the genie was, Calliope's first wish was to say exactly what she meant out loud to avoid any tricks Phlegethon may pull. Her second was to restore the sanity, health, and livelihood of any Pokemon affected by her previous wishes. Phlegethon granted her wish, but because the volcano had destroyed the ecosystem in the surrounding area, all of her friends had been broken up into wandering tribes. He suggested to her to use her final wish to restore her voice or make one final attempt to fix the damage caused, but instead, Calliope wished for Phlegethon to end his life. He was reluctant but Calliope reminded him that he had not stated any other restrictions on her wishes. Just before the Landorus died, he told her that whether be it in this world or the next, he would make her pay for that wish.
In the end of the tale, Calliope could not bring herself to face her friends after all the trouble she had caused and because of the way she spoke now. Instead, she flew high into the canopy, facing the opposite direction of her former den, and spotted pointed tree tops in the far distance. She flew there to begin a new life.
