Merlot is a Lugia, the lady and caretaker of Castle Draclugia. Like most legendary pokemon, rumors abound about her: From her age, weight, and dietary habits to other more scandalous secrets, Merlot is a riddle wrapped in an enigma inside a fashionable velvet cape. Some of the most persistent rumors revolve around her personality. Some say she is fickle and capricious, flying into a murderous rage at the tiniest percieved slight. Others say her moods are linked with the phases of the moon, driving her mad on nights when it is full. Others say she has only lost her temper once and only once, long ago in ancient times, and it was an event that shook the very foundations of the world.

To people who actually know her, she has never been seen so much as losing her temper, though her detractors would say those who have simply haven't lived to tell the tale. She is always courteous, but not always generous, to people passing through her domain and has been known to excise heavy tolls on travelers on a whim. Despite all the rumors, nothing has ever been proven and in person she always seems to know the right thing to say, a true gentlewoman to her core.
