Lifespan of Pokemon

Different species of Pokemon live naturally for different spans of time: their life expectancy. Many Pokemon live for a few years less or more than their life expectancy as a result of factors such as good or bad health, but each species tends towards an average. Although individual species differ, larger species and more draconic species tend have longer life expectancies, with true Dragon-types having the longest life expectancies. Bug-types have the shortest life expectancies on average of all types. The longer a species’ life expectancy, the stronger they tend to be naturally, although this is not universal: many Bug-types are extremely dangerous, and sickly Dragon-types must take great care around other Pokemon. Evolved Pokemon have longer lifespans than Pokemon that have not evolved. Pokemon of species that cannot evolve may tend towards slightly lower lifespans, but Pokemon of species that can evolve but that have not tend to have two thirds the lifespan or worse of an evolved member of their species line. On average, Pokemon have a life expectancy around 80 years. Ghosts and Ghost-types are exceptional in that they do not have a life expectancy by species: they will only die by unnatural causes. Ghosts that suffer forms of madness, that have few memories or that are trying to regain their memories tend to die sooner as a result of the associated dangers, if any.
