Prologue
Rescuers
It seems we have hit, er, yet another crisis. I’m sure many of you are already well aware of this though, and are wondering what exactly has happened here. Unfortunately… I am just as clueless as you are. Mike hasn’t returned. Winston seems to have vanished (although at first I thought he might have run off). And it appears that half of our village’s populace has disappeared without a trace. And… ngh.
: Just one thing after another with this place. It's just absolutely astounding how....
: …I, ahem-- er, sorry. This really isn’t the time for me to be cynical. We have to keep our spirits up! Hope is something we really can’t lose at a time like this, after all. I’m sure everyone that vanished will return safe and sound. It’s just a matter of when. They’ll be back soon, though. I’m sure of it!
: Ehehe, yeah… It was probably just... someone’s Teleport backfiring, and they’re on their way back now! That’s it.
: Or maybe… it was… um. It was…
: Regardless of how they disappeared, the fact of the matter is… they did. But we’re also not sure who specifically is gone. There remains the possibility that.. that some of your team members are out there still. I know how hard this must be for everybody, and the friends and family of those who vanished. ...So! Right now we should put all our efforts into ensuring that everyone is alright. Check up with your families, see if you can recover anyone else out there who was fortunate enough to escape the, uh, vanishy... thing. Just try to refrain from doing, you know. Frivolous tasks. Such as fetching silly rocks and baubles. There are more important things to concern ourselves with at the moment.
Oh, and um. Before I forget, I also have a special task for any team that is willing to lend me a hand. See, I have an important message that I need delivered to Miss Anana in Alomomola City. I’m sure you remember her. That ever so gracious yellow Kecleon with the flower? If you’re interested, please come see me and I’ll relay the message to you. Do try to be polite when you deliver it though, okay? She is the one who made it possible to resurrect our headquarters after all.
In any case, I… I believe that’s all. Keep your spirits bright, rescuers. We’ll get through this.
-Fresnel
Well lots of Pokemon are missing this time, not just Mike.. I guess we can do something about helping out... since we can’t do anything about all those guys who went away...
: Anyways, I got an idea. I talked to that Pokemon at the funny-looking church thing and he said we should help Pokemon who are having a rough time. I think we should make some cool things to give to them, and give them food, too. Church guy said he will help us. He said food is a good thing to give, and also, we need to make really cool things. I thought maybe we could make trinkets or something, or make nice letters, or something. Probably it’s not fun to be alone.. so let’s help out anyone who’s alone. Okay? Let’s do it really good.
: If you guys got any good ideas, I’ll listen to you and decide if they’re cool or not. But we should focus on doing nice things for Pokemon who are upset. And then let’s all hope together. Okay?
It’s also not very nice to just say “I’m sorry for your loss” cause it just makes people madder. Just be really nice to ‘em... I think mostly, everyone knows what it’s like...
If you need some supplies I think church guy has them. He is nice, even if he is kinda not very cool. Oh well, we can’t all be so awesome...
See y’all soon, --Maple
: P.S. if you see my brother please let me know...
MISSIONS
MAIN MISSION
Assist Fresnel in these tough times by delivering his message to Anana in Alomomola Bay in a calm and professional manner. Do whatever you must to have it reach Anana's hands, but do not goof off about it either! Things have been rocky in the Bay as of late, and there are now many Pokemon around who will want to cause you trouble for bringing something to Anana. Watch out for thugs.
SIDE MISSION
Maple is devastated from the recent events, and to cope with them, Archibishop Gabriel has tasked her and other Rescuers to assist others in Tao Village who've lost their close ones with food packets and home-made trinkets to bless them with.
MISSION OBJECTIVES
MAIN MISSION
-Take letter from Fresnel and deliver it to Anana
-Make sure Anana receives the letter
-Watch out for certain parties who do not wish to see Anana in power
SIDE MISSION
-Assist Maple in distributing food from the missionary to others in Tao Village
-Create handmade trinkets to also gift to others (can give away excess accessories)
Rogues
Maybe all ye scallywags know 'bout it, or maybe not. If ye don't, ye need t' keep up with gossip more. For your sake, it bears a bit o' repeatin': Devonshire's missing. That leaves me in charge. Yep, ye heard that right, I'm in charge.
: Y'know, it seems like summin' I'd be really excited 'bout, but.. really, I'm not. In fact, it makes me a bit mad. I ain't ready for this responsibility. Part o' me is interested, but.. Not yet. I just ain't prepared. And now it's thrust onto me. That don't seem too fair, do it?
: Worse than me not bein' ready is just not havin' Devonshire around. We been business partners for so long, and now he's just.. vanished. It's makin' me feel a bit snappy, so if ye talk t' me and I bite yer head off, literally or metaphorically, well.. I ain't sorry. I warned ye.
: On that note, I don't really know what happened t' him, he just kinda went poof, but.. I shoulda saw it comin'. I did see it comin'. Devonshire is pretty good for all that ominous sense of doom, and we both seemed t' be gettin' that feelin', but.. Didn't think t' do nuthin'. Couldn't have anyway.
: But hey! S'not all bad. If I know Devonshire—and I do—he'll be back. He'll be comin' back with a vengeance on whoever—or whatever—done this. Mark my words. And I'll be there t' back him up. And I expect all of ye that call yerself any sort of loyal t' do the same.
The best we can all do now, though, is help out where it's needed. I'm sure everythin' is in a mess. From what I can gather, Devonshire ain't the only one to have gone missing. Normally, having the rivals vanish would be good, but.. y'know. I guess because of all this, there's probably some work t' be done. Lemme see here, I made a note of it somewhere...
: Ah, there. Chex wanted summin' about bodies done. He approached me, and I kinda got the gist of what he wanted, but.. well, if any of ye have met him, ye'll know he speaks in noises. I'm startin' t' understand him—which is good with Devonshire's absence—but I think it'd be best if he wrote his own letter and I attached it with this one. He can explain in more detail. Give it a good read and some consideration. Chex is a good lad.
: Speakin' of good lads, I've assigned Dmitri with a task, too, and ye can all help him. There'll be a letter from him, too, though I'm sure it'll be spendin' more time talkin' 'bout how much he hates what I've made him do, and tons about snakes.
: That boy need t' fix what he hates 'bout snakes, really. It's a lot of trouble. I've told him t' help one out, and he objected a lot, but I told him I'd make 'im sleep outside and let Chex steal his bed. I feel like I'm a parent, really, but that's all the boy'd listen to. He begrudgingly took the deal. Anyway, just read his letter. Help if ye want, but I ain't bothered if ye don't. If he fails, I get some privacy. Win win.
: Anythin' else? I don't think so. We're in a bit of a tight spot, is really the most important part. Is a bit weird without Devonshire around. I got so used to it, and now it's gone. I hope I can be a good stand-in while we wait for his return. I'll do my best, gang. I really will.
Keep it real,
-Gunpowder
: Gunpowder was almost attacked by a snake today, but it turns out it could talk, so I wasn’t allowed to get it. Devonshire said so, before he left. I don’t really know where he went, I asked him before he left and he said it was probably far away. He said I shouldn’t look for him, and that he’ll be back soon. I hope he does come back, if he doesn’t it will be like what happened with my village all that time ago, and that made me sad. I wonder if it’ll make Gunpowder sad? I wanted to ask him, but he got mad at me and said I should leave him alone. I asked if that meant he was sad Devonshire was gone, but he only told me to do a mission and not to come back until I have it done.
: I’d ask Chex what he thinks about Devonshire disappearing, but he doesn’t ever talk, and he doesn’t have enough room on his cards for actual answers, so I can’t ask him. He doesn’t look sad though, but he never looks sad. I wonder if he is? Maybe I’ll ask Jill and Ivory. They’re his parents, and they’re pretty nice.
: Gunpowder told me we had to help the snake find her gems, they were stolen by someone. I don’t want to help her! She probably never had any gems! She probably wants to trick me into thinking she won’t attack me before she attacks me! I’m not stupid! I want to throw her off a cliff, but Devonshire told me I’m not allowed to do that to anyone who lives near Tao. That would also mean I hadn’t completed the mission, so I wouldn’t be able to go back to Gunpowder and ask him about Devonshire.
: I’m only doing this because I want to ask Gunpowder about Devonshire some more. I don’t care about stupid Opal or her stupid gems or her stupid anything! I just want to get away from her and go back to the caves. You guys can talk to Opal, because I don’t want to. I don’t want to talk to her at all! I hate this mission! All the snakes have ever done to me was try to get into my village, but I never let them! They probably chased all the villagers away when I was out on patrol, I just know it. One time three snakes tried to get me at once, but I was too fast for them. Two of them ran away but I got the other!
: I wish to take the lot home back with me. The bodies are numerous, and I must have them. I cannot take them for free. All would expect it. Anana desires to pay the normal rate. There are too many for the normal rate. She won't pay more. She says that there shouldn't be that many. There are. I cannot convince the bodies they are not dead. Arguing with the dead is useless.
: She won't pay. She says it looks bad to pay so much. For body removal. It makes Alomomola look unsafe. There are records of what she pays me. Paying more does not make Alomomola more dangerous. She won't listen. I'm just a kid. I need you to tell her. For me.
The bodies would help complete my collection. Of bodies. Eventually skeletons. I want them. Most of them are extremely damaged. They did not die of natural causes. Some did. I will pick through them and find the unbroken ones. For my collection. I want to do it at home. Away from Alomomola. It is unsafe here.
Some bodies are missing limbs. Some have been exsanguinated. Been trampled. Mauled. Clawed. Eaten. Drowned. Burned. Decapitated. Torn in half. Some are black and purple. Probably poison. I have no wish to stay here. I cannot warn the residents. They won't listen to me. I'm just a kid.
: Tell Anana to pay me more. Help me take the bodies. I don't want to stay here long. Tell her that there have been murders. Tell her you will tell everyone if she doesn't pay.
: Tell no one. The murderers will find you. And I will take you back home with me.
MISSIONS
MAIN MISSION
Chex has need of Anana to pay her fines for "specialized garbage removal," but she has yet to pay. Thus, Chex is ordering Rogue members to accompany him to Alomomola Bay in order to deliver a final invoice to be paid on the spot. Chex doesn’t care how it gets done, so long as the dues are collected safely. Though, it’s best not to hurt Anana directly, as she has many... connections.
SIDE MISSION
Opal has pleaded to the Rogues for assistance after her jewels were stolen, and Gunpowder has assigned Dmitri to the task. However, Dmitri cannot personally stand to be near her, so he requires help from others to assist Opal. After speaking with Gunpowder a bit more, Opal revealed the thief to be Bane, who has a little treasure cache in Windswept Woods according to rumor surrounding this mysterious lady.
MISSION OBJECTIVES
MAIN MISSION
-Accompany Chex to Alomomola Bay
-Collect dues without harming Anana
SIDE MISSION
-Assist Dmitri in aiding Opal
-Find where Bane has taken Opal's jewels
Merchants
A letter from me must be rather unexpected, eh wot? Perhaps even unwelcome, given the circumstances. Do not worry, I will certainly address that, but first, I wish to speak briefly of the rather jarring disappearances we just suffered.
I understand that many of you watched your loved ones vanish into thin air. I was in the presence of our own Master Foo at the time. Unfortunately, he is caught up in whatever is happening, and none of us are entirely certain why, or how this occurred. I, as I am sure the other remaining leaders of the Rogues and Rescuers will, am going to do my best to investigate this and find where they all may have gone, but we have woefully little to go on.
: In light of reports that Miss PK and young Rhodes have... have been caught in this wave of disappearance, the Merchants are officially left with Malt and Sandy at the remaining head of leadership. They are both understandably shaken by this, so I am stepping forth in Miss PK's absence. Until we find her whereabouts, you all answer to me.
: Ah-haha. Fear not, I do not intend to suddenly become iron-fisted. Truthfully, it would be best for us to stay rallied together though. As such, I believe I owe you all an explanation before I can expect to be properly welcomed back.
In the wake of the tragic rampage visited upon us by Sorbet, the Elder of my birthplace, Sapling Village, lost his life to the bitter cold while protecting my brother, Sporegard. They were without leadership as far as I was aware, and thus I hurried there to aid in any way I could.
: ... Admittedly, I had a rather unpleasant exchange with Miss PK over this just before my departure. Things I would prefer not to repeat, after having a change of heart. I regret this deeply, but in the end, my presence at Sapling turned out to be in its best interests. Sporegard, in better shape than ever as a dashing Breloom like myself, now resides in our late Elder's holding. I have Master Foo to thank for things working out as they did, as I fear that without his encouragement and talents to straighten me out and bring my younger brother up to speed, the village very well could have fallen apart.
: I'm certain this all sounds rather dire and even somewhat depressing. Still, remember that you, residents of Tao, worked to build it up again. This village no longer stands as a place you live in because you were simply born and raised, or because you simply decided to come here. It is yours. You worked to make it what it is, and I intend to help you keep it a wonderful place to live.
However... while I am reluctant to say it, we absolutely must move forward. We cannot stop now and send every Pokemon in the guild on a search for those who vanished into thin air, as much as I am sure some of you wish to. I understand your feelings more than you know, but for now, please try to think of everyone who is still with us.
: Right-o. Keeping this in mind, I have personally thought of a task for you all! Many of you are perhaps shaken up as my own remaining fellows are, and I understand that. We must not only account for the missing, but we also must attempt to fill in the societal gaps they may have left behind. I will not be expecting any sort of dangerous, stressful adventure out of you this time around. I am assigning those willing to take over at Spinda Cafe. Our very own cafe owner, Vertigo, is unfortunately among the disappearances, and it would be terribly helpful to the village to keep his establishment running.
... We do get to handle the profits for that time... perhaps don't mention that to Vertigo if-- eh, when he returns. Ahem, yes.
: Anyway, I have heard that things are turning about as barbaric as a Gambitville saloon in there without Vertigo to keep things civil. If you take this job, do try and settle the riff-raff down, yes? Other than that, it is really quite simple, and I am certain you all can not only handle it, but perhaps even have a jolly good time to take your mind off of things, wot wot?
I will be doing what I can, and we will most assuredly make it through this. I do appreciate you all hearing me out after my departure, and I look forward to working with you again. I dare say I may have missed you all! Ah-haha.
Stay Classy, -Shroomsworth
: P.S.: Much as I will be looking out to inform you all if we uncover any of the missing Pokemon, I would very much appreciate it if you could inform me right away if you happen to stumble upon young Rhodes or Miss PK.
... That is all.
: This is how PK reaches out to all you guild members? A simple letter? What's to keep someone from coming along and adding to the bottom of it? Nothing, as far as I can see. If I remember right, it's happened before, and not too long ago! You'd think all the guild leaders would have learned their lesson, but you'd be wrong!
I need one of you fabulous merchants to go out and pick up a book I ordered from Castle Draclugia's Library. I sent payment off quite some time ago, and Lexy was instructed to deliver it to me on his most recent trip to Tao. He failed this task, which was the only important one he had!
: Since he left me without my book, I am at a loss as to what to do. I cannot go outside for fear of raising the temperature ever so slightly and disturbing the feeble and the elderly, and even if I could, I have too much to handle, what with the situation as it currently is.
: Your task, my dear merchants, is to travel to Castle Draclugia, enter the library, and find the book I ordered! You needn't worry about that floating kaleidoscope guarding the place, as he is currently very far away from us.
: If for any reason you cannot find the book in the library, it may be in Dandelo's study, which I've marked for you on this map. I drew it.. a very long time ago, but I doubt that castle has changed at all. Try not to get killed by the traps, it'd be a lot harder for me to get my book if you did. I'd tell you where they are, but that'd ruin the fun, wouldn't it? If you were intimidated by Merlot, you should have seen her father! What I wouldn't give to see your fates if you were found in the castle by him.
: Speaking of Merlot, while I would find it highly entertaining, don't run into her. She's not exactly fond of me, or any of you, for that matter. Devonshire's the only one who seems to evoke her normal side, and if she were to find out that he's no longer with us, she'd be absolutely heartbroken, and then you'd be found trespassing, and well.. I'll write the gory details down in a book. Your memory will live forever!
Here's the list of books I need you to retrieve for me, any one of them will do.
Dandelo’s Journal: Most likely within his study. It’s his journal. Merlot’s dead father. Did I really have to spell that out for you? Honestly! if you had to ask, you probably aren’t cut out for this mission.
Kitab Al-Ghameq: This will be the only book in a language you can’t possibly hope to begin to pronounce. Probably in Dandelo’s private library. This will most definitely not be in Lexy’s libraries, as this book is far too important for a mere curator to have.
On moone-lyghte & yts effycts: a stydy: This will probably be in the main library, but try to check the sections far in the back, where not many Pokemon have been. It’s not a very popular book, as it’s fairly difficult to read. Boring, too. You wouldn’t be interested in it.
MISSIONS
MAIN MISSION
Callahan has requested that the Merchants pick up an... order he has placed with Lexy (who is currently visiting Tao) from Castle Draclugia. Any one of the books from Callahan’s list will do. He’s given a probable location for each book. However... be cautious: Merlot’s only reason for giving hospitality has been taken away, so it’s best to avoid her. And if you’re seeking out the rarest of the three books, the room is likely to be trapped heavily.
SIDE MISSION
Vertigo has gone missing! As such, there’s no longer a goofy, friendly bartender in the Spinda Cafe. Shroomsworth has tasked several Merchant teams to rotate being the barkeep each night in order to maintain as much peace as possible given the circumstances.
MISSION OBJECTIVES
MAIN MISSION
-Infiltrate Castle Draclugia carefully
-Procure any one of the books in the list without being caught!
SIDE MISSION
-Assist Hops in the Spinda Cafe
-Ensure that the customers are entertained
